About the Study
The Guelph Family Health Study is a long-term study designed to follow families over many years. We are learning new ways to help families set good routines for eating, activity, sleep and screen time at home. These habits can help kids be healthy now and in the future.

The Guelph Community Health Centre works with the community to provide innovative primary health services and community programs, and to meet the needs of people who may find it hard to access health care.

Funding for the launch of the Guelph Family Health Study came from the University of Guelph’s Better Planet Project, including a major philanthropic gift from Bob and Gail Farquharson.
Additional funding has been secured from i) local, provincial and federal levels of government, ii) non-governmental organizations and/or foundations, and iii) industry associations and corporations.
All decisions regarding research design and implementation are directed by the Guelph Family Health Study research team, without restriction by sponsors to publish and disseminate research findings. In relation to operations and funding requirements, researchers may engage with stakeholders and funders to seek feedback and report on progress and interim findings. Ensuring transparency and freedom to disseminate research findings is integral to the success of the Guelph Family Health Study.

Related Projects
The Guelph Family Health Study has also expanded to include a number of like-minded research projects focused on family health, nutrition, and healthy lifestyles. Learn more about these initiatives below.
- Family Stress Study: Started in 2020 with 300 families from Guelph and Hamilton. It’s part of the larger Guelph Family Health Study and focuses on how stress affects young kids, looking at things like their growth, eating habits, activity levels, and sleep. In 2026, we’ll be catching up with these families for the fifth year in a row.
